Volunteer Director of Outreach and Program Development

Ellen Barnett, MD, PhD is a retired family physician who practiced in Sonoma County for over 40 years. Dr. Barnett has harnessed her PhD in education and her experience developing educational programs to support individuals in improving their wellbeing through the Imagine You Program. Dr. Barnett originally developed the Imagine You approach to help her patients clarify their health goals, which helped her better support and relate with her patients. 

Dr. Barnett continues to serve in the Imagine You Program by training new trainers, supporting Imagine You Trainings, and promoting Imagine You in the community.

Dr. Barnett retired from teaching in the Sutter Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency. She served as Curriculum Director for over 10 years, and Acting Residency Director for 2 years.  At her retirement, she was a Clinical Professor of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF School of Medicine. For 10 years, Dr. Barnett served on several subcommittees of Health Action-Sonoma County. She co-created and delivered the Integrative Medical Clinic Foundation’s Patient Navigator Certificate Program at Sonoma State University for five years.
